TéT: New initiatives for innovation

The competitiveness and the development of agriculture and food industry is a strategic importance for Europe. Starting from this realisation the Science and Technology (TéT) Foundation held a pioneer conference on theme of „Knowledge-transfer as a key of innovation in sustainable agriculture and food industry” in Budapest in 2011 May. The conference was organized under the Hungarian EU Presidency program. This event provides an overview of innovation opportunities by the tools of knowledge-transfer and networking in agriculture and food industry, as well as offered practical tools to convey the knowledge.

The innovation has not yet received sufficient attention in this area, even though in food industry and agriculture are also numerous opportunities for technology and knowledge transfer. The researchers, SMEs and large industrial operators presented their experience, ideas and good practices in relation to bio-innovation, and the European Commission informed the participants that what programs and resources have, to support the innovation in this area.

The importances of this topic also show that the EU preparing innovation strategies determine the agenda for the next twenty years. For the effective innovation and the enhanced economy exploitation of research results, is necessary that the research-institutions and industry players, SMEs cooperate more closely.

At present, there are extremely low levels of innovation activity in agriculture and food industry in Europe, including Hungary.

The conference organized by the Knowledge2Innovation project, supported from the 2007 to 13 in the 7. framework. Further information can be found at www.tetalap.hu/ktconference.
